What a great week! There were a couple of rainy, cool and dreary days earlier in the week, but we enjoyed some incredible adventures later in the week.

We heard that Blackbeard Island GA was a great beach for finding sand dollars, which sounded pretty good to us. The winds were calm, so before crossing Sapelo Sound, we turned right, anchored in narrow Blackwater Creek and dinghed a short distance to shore. We walked along the beach with dead trees and along a path thru a gorgeous maritime forest with palmettos and canopies of trees draping with Spanish Moss on our way to the nice and wide sandy beach along the ocean. Right away we started finding sand dollars, which was great because we only had a short time on the beach before we needed to head back to the boat. During our walk, we saw a deer, a snake, and a couple of armadillos. Very cool! When we returned to the creek side of the island, the tide had gone out and our dinghy was high and dry on the sandy beach! Glad there were four of us to carry the dinghy about a hundred feet back to the water. :) Hope to stop there again on a future trip and spend more time on the beach!

There was a huge freighter heading toward Savannah as we crossed Savannah River from Georgia into South Carolina. It's always interesting to see the various vessels along the waterway!

Daufuskie Island SC was another place that was recommended. The county dock was a short dinghy ride from our anchorage in New River. We spent the day biking around the island and talking with several residents. Dave told us a lot about the history of the island and he even took us thru an old home that he's restoring back to the original style. During our ride thru the golf course, we even saw a couple of alligators in the pond. At lunchtime, we stopped at Marshside Mama's, a unique restaurant next to the general store. We had a great time exploring the island and we'll stop there again!

We just anchored in Beaufort River and are looking forward to walking around beautiful Downtown Beaufort.
