The Eastern Shore
19 October 2009 | Dun Cove
We navigated our way north to Dun Cove and were anchored in time to enjoy the sun's warming rays and "hang" out our aft cabin... I'm talking the mattress and the sheets and the pillows and the clothing that was not bagged etc... Yes the Grisswall's had arrived! (Remember the movie National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation)
We were surrounded by three large estates. We were the only ones in this anchorage and when a couple of people came down to sit on their well cared for extended dock, Steve and I felt guilty that we had dropped anchor there and ruined their view. At 4:30 pm we dragged everything back inside and re-assembled the aft cabin. All was dry and well aired ... What a lovely night's sleep we had and it was almost comfortable enough to go to bed wearing only our pyjamas... well almost.
History: Steve has just finished (his second reading) "Chesapeake" by James A. Michener and as we look upon these beautiful mansions we can't help but realize the atrocities that went on here into the mid 1800's. We are in Slave country.
