Rio Diablo, Nargana, San Blas, Panama
Along with anchoring off beautiful palm covered islands, snorkeling off spectacular but sometimes scary reefs and visiting the Kuna villages, we can also travel by dingy up some of the rivers flowing into the San Blas Islands. One navigable river, is the Rio Diablo which flows in towards Nargana, a provisioning town. It has an air strip that many cruiser guests fly in and out of. I almost called it an airport but it is really just a strip of concrete.
We had to pole our way into the Rio Diablo over the shallows at the mouth of the river and in places get out of the dingy and drag it. But once into the narrow tree lined river it was deep enough to motor. We traveled up the river Three to a dingy with the crew of “Rachel” and their two guests occasionally turning off the engines and paddling along listening to the sounds coming from the rain forest.
