Going through the Erie Canal with m/v Persistence
29 June 2014 | River Front Park
Day 14 - JUN 29th - Sunday
We woke this morning to this sign.. we are most likely the first to go through the first lock into the Erie Canal today... but nope, we had a trawler run up along side us and he's the first into the lock. We were second and 2 more boats followed behind. It was a little scary to watch the trawler immediately behind us, try to hook onto the wall. They lost a fortress anchor on their first attempt, and a pole (which Margaret retrieved and handed back to them) at the next lock but they soon got the hang of it by the time we hit Lock 6...phew.
We completed 12 Locks today. We stopped at River Front Park, Canajoharie and tied up alongside a floating dock with power and water... all no charge! Randy was told he couldn't go through Lock 14, even though we had arrived before 6 pm. We did a U-turn and I believe the Cap was a little ticked.. so, he took it out on Cathy, Steve and I. We had to change all the fenders and lines over to the portside to tie up to the floating dock. We did another U-turn to dock. Then we were asked to wash down the whole boat to get rid of the salt.. a big job after a long day, but the Cap also got in there to help. He had a long day too. After Steve and I served up dinner, we danced the night away and hit the pillow.
