Day 77 Tuesday, January 5, 2016
Matheson Hammock Marina, Coral Gables, FL
We didn’t move today. Winds and rain. Well let’s just call it a storm all day long. Thought this was going to happen last night. It didn’t start until this morning. Hope it will be gone in the morning.
So, what to do? Maintenance is all caught up. But, I keep thinking the new water system water pump is running at times when we haven’t used water. Maybe a loose clamp. 35 year old hose starting to give way? So, into the bilge I go. Sure enough there is water seeping around a really old hose and clamp. Off with the old clamp and on with a new and the hose seems to be holding. But there certainly is enough water in the bilge for the float switch to cut the bilge pump on. But it’s not working. I check the fuse and it’s seems ok. I try the manual switch and nothing. I disassemble the pump and it tries to move but the bearings feel rough and worn. Time for a new pump.
Five West Marine stores in the Miami area and I find the nearest to the marina and order a new one and take an UBER to the store and back. I’ll install it in the morning.
I also ordered a new transmission cooler simply because I don’t like the looks of the existing cooler. It has corrosion at a joint. I have a used spare. It’s the same part number of the oil cooler and I want to have a spare for emergencies if either blow. You just have to plan for failures. So, technically that’s what today was about.
We are having a nice dinner aboard as the wind and rain rage outside. Susan fixed really good chicken with pineapple and we had some South Carolina rice we bought when we were there. Really nice dinner.
The wind whistles like the Sergeant Preston of the Yukon TV series.
But at least it’s not cold. Actually we are running the A/C at least while we cook with the propane stove.
I didn’t take any pictures today. So, today’s picture is Susan and Me in Canaan, WV last year.
