Day 25 Saturday, November 14, 2015
Passage Seapath Yacht Club, Wrightsville Beach, NC to South Harbour Village Marina
10:13 AM Underway
2:14 Docked
24 miles 4.8 engine hours
Very nice cruise today. Still we had quite an interesting change in speeds near inlets. Sometimes being sucked toward the inlet and getting a lot more speed than as you pass the inlet and barely make headway. You can't time these currents. But I had the engine running harder than normal to get through a canal called Snows Cut. ( This artificial canal -- about 1.75 miles long, 100 feet wide and 12 feet deep -- connects the Cape Fear River with Myrtle Grove Sound just north of Carolina Beach. ) We were making 3.8 to 4 knots against the strong current. But once we got through Snows Cut and entered the Cape Fear River we got a following current. Had the engine pulled back to what should have been around 6knots and we hit 10.3 knots riding the current toward the ocean. Of course we had to get off the free ride at Southport and started bucking that tide. But it was not as strong as snows cut and we only had a few miles before we stopped for the evening.
Susan worked with a lady that lives in a condo overlooking the AICW and we had plans for Chuck and Judy Young to visit Liquid Therapy and then eat with them. Chuck and Judy showed up about 5PM just in time for a glass of wine and cheese. They had not seen the boat since we had the brightwork varnished and the topsides painted. The boat looked much better to them. We ate at the Dead End Saloon here at the marina. Susan and I are tired of eating out. I can't tell if I'm gaining weight or losing. No scales on board. Pant's feel baggy.? HA.
Chilly tonight. Running both heat pumps. Need to get moving south more. But I think we are just going to Myrtle Beach today. But we will be out of North Carolina. So, check that long coastal state off the list.
Today's picture is a nice sunset picture I shot in Wrightsville Beach.
