Summer cruise at last

Off at last. On a sunny, windy afternoon on 4 May, Ju and I set off from Ardfern on our summer cruise at last. The boatyard had adapted the liferaft cradle for Precious 2, and we had sorted a couple of problems with the engine. SO we sailed down Loch Craignish in full sunlight, with up to 20 knots of wind in our faces. We kept the engine on and motorsailed, through the Dorus Mor and its overfalls, and on into the Sound of Luing, where suddenly there was no wind at all. 3 knots from behind us. So it remained all the way up and past the Fladda Lighthouse. Off Bono Rock the wind got up a bit at last, and we could switch off the engine and sail. It was a great sail across to Mull, where we entered Loch Spelve with the flood tide, and found a sheltered anchoring spot in the usual north west corner of the loch. We plan to stay here until Saturday for the Royal Highland Yacht Club muster, with mussels and wine on shore at the mussel farm. Meantime Happy Birthday Cathy, and hello there Zoya! Cathy tells me you are now reading this blog! Do comment if you can!

As April progresses Little Else gets ready for her summer season trip. While Precious 2 has arrived, she is not quite snug aboard yet, as her cradle needs a bit of work before she will fit in it. The windlass gave a bit of trouble, but with the help of a good friend (thanks CD!), the replacement of a roller clutch bearing and some dead wiring, it is working well again. We hope to give it a fair bit of use this year by anchoring where we can instead of heading for marinas all the time! Weather is picking up nicely for the new season. More as departure day gets closer!

Precious 2

Precious 2 arrived by Oban Express on Monday! Ocean Safety have been wonderful, and replaced our three-year-old liferaft with a brand new one. Precious apparently expired in the fire, so this replacement is most welcome. Just as Spruce thought!

The Craignish Boat Jumble was good too, this year, as not only did we sell a goodly collection of 'stuff', we won two prizes in the raffle - a goose and a beef roast! So we'll be eating well for a bit!

Work to do this coming month: get Little Else shipshape for the summer cruise.

What a godsend, getting a brand new replacement! no more servicing for a year or two now...
