The little green boat has been commandeered until further notice, The Sprucettes have been put ashore somewhere in the Grenadines and we cannot guarantee their safety. However, any donations might go towards helping their situation. Please send cheques to Susie and Robin of Bermondsey.
Having tracked our quarry through giant Atlantic swell, tropical reefs and mountainous rainforests, we know that there's no better time to strike... that and our flight leaves in 4 hours time.
There's just enough time for a little more water torture before we leave the pair to fend for themselves for good.
Note: There are two forms of water torture available, the standard 'waterboarding' technique at dark falls (see below) and another far more gratuitous version, involving wastefully splashing around in bucket after bucket of Andy's precious fresh water supply.

Robin & Susie are packing bags to fly back to the UK later this aftenoon. Lots of memories and hope they had a good time aboard Spruce. Here is a picture of the donkey - fortunately George Orwell's smell'o'vision still hasn't been invented - and a clip from a lift we had in a pick up truck from a local who took pity on us walking up the road in hot sunshine.

04/Feb/2010, Chateaubelaire - St Vincent
...(cont ...) ...So began the Sprucettes' trip to Chateaubelaire and a wander into the rain-forest. Susie and Robin's last full day signed up as crew aboard Spruce and a complete change in scenery. Lush, dilapidated banana and coconut plantations whizzed by. Vertiginous cliffs galore: tropical vegetation: a marked contrast to the beaches, reefs and coulourful fish of the Tobago Cays.
The rain forest was a tremendous "Wow!" for our crew. The steep climb along a track took us a few hundred metres up the side of the mountain, Green and verdant outlooks at every turn. Humming birds darting between nectar, blue dragon flies hovering at the stream and the humid fetid heat of the forest pressing in whenever the breeze failed us.
Our ascent was marked by a local riding a very smelly old donkey and our descent by trying to stay ahead of the nice men wielding machetes. An essential tool of the trade for these fellows, but scary to see so blatantly carried in the open to us soft Europeans, no doubt fuelled by adventure stories from childhood and vivid Hollywood imagery.
The hot and, dare I say it, sweaty quad of travellers enjoyed an excellent drenching under a splendid , cold, waterfall to round off the forest hike! Another Grand Day out! Oh yes, the bus ride home was even more frightening than the men with machetes:-)

Mothers run for their children! Dogs move off the road! Goats sprightly leap for the verge! Oncoming vehicles swerve into the ditch! Make Way! Make Way! Loud bass reggae music blares as the near uncontrollable metal box hurtles through another cluster of colourful dwellings on its endless cycle of flights along the tortuous, winding, precipitous leeward coast of St Vincent. Driver to the fore clutching the wheel, staring ahead, bling galore from wrist to elbow on both arms. Conductor sat at the sliding door to the left. A ragged guerrilla cap, proclaiming "Rebel", holds his tumbling dreadlocks against the warm gale blowing through the vehicle. Sunglasses pinned to his dark shining brow reflecting the passengers' terrified images. An elderly lady, prim in formal dress, her hat perches precariously on her grey head. The group of Rastafarians lounging, heads moving to the heavy beat. Shaven head youths and young schoolgirls working at looking "Cool". All united in their white knuckled grip of seats in the mini-bus and a fervent wish to reach their destination rather than their Maker on this fine sunny day on a Caribbean Island. ..... 03/Feb/2010, Young Island - St Vincent
Spruce has sailed back to Young Island at the south end of St Vincent, last here twelve days ago to pick up Robin and Susie for their two-week holiday. Unfortunately, almost over but lots of great memories of visiting the Grenadines and having a late Christmas with them on board.
Today we are off to see the West coast of the island. Wallilabou, Pirates of the Caribbean fame, nature trails into the rain forest and, maybe, a glimpse of Soufriere, the slightly active volcano in the north of the island. One day folk fear this will be another Monserrat necessitating evacuation of at least part of the island.

A view across the Tobago Cays and here is a link to some film of swimming with turtles at Tobago Cays. Our friend "Welly" from yacht "Rapau" took her underwater camera and captured the elegance and graceful movement of the creatures we so enjoyed swimming around with.
