Last Few Days in Colombia

14/Aug/2012, Cartagena - Colombia

Last days of preparation and stocking up before we depart from Colombia and head towards Panama and the San Blas Islands, within a region otherwise known as Kuna Yala.

We'll be unable to get internet or shop for food and supplies for about 8 weeks so must be fairly self sufficient. Blog updates can be done over the SSB radio and our radio email service...

Hi,
There may be plenty of room under the hat, but can't help noticing a little tightness in the shirt!

Best wishes for continues safe sailing.

A few days in the marina at Club de Pesca and now we are anchored off the Club Nautico, a short distance down the bay. Awaiting the return of our Propane bottles after filling; different fittings and regulations as we move through various countries can prove difficult. Our previous boat was fitted with a paraffin stove, that fuel must be international we thought, but was hard to find in the Caribbean Islands. This trip so far we have manged to get our 4 UK specification bottles replenished, but it is not always easy.

We'll stay anchored here, with the commercial hub-bub of the container port nearby and a whole bunch of cruising yachts anchored around, until we leave for Las Islas Rosarios, San Bernandos and the San Blas in Panama.

Storm with Tropical Wave

An afternoon visit to a lovely restaurant located inside an old fort and situated beside our marina supplied an unexpected show. Grey skies often threaten during the afternoon here and sometimes a sudden downpour may develop. The grey to the south seemed more ominous than usual and much darker in colour. Waiters soon asked us to leave the courtyard table and move inside; as they spoke a hot blast of wind struck, rapidly followed by rain.

A few sailboats anchored in the bay started to move downwind as anchors lost their grip on the bottom. Winds were strong and probably gusting well into gale force. One hapless vessel made it into the moored boats at Club de Pesca Marina, right beside the restaurant...
