new plans... again!
07/28/2009

well i just got a phone call from my boss (the schooner captain) turns out they want me to be full time crew and live onboard! this is good and bad...
good because i get paid, get to live on a boat, and it full out rocks!
its bad tho because i wont have as much time on my boat.
on the other hand i get paid $50 a day so will bring in about 1k a month with tips and i will be working till dec so around 6k saved up! then i will be sailing south and wont spend money there and will put maybe half of it in a CD before leaving and let it make more money!
so i need to get the boat in the water and get arounf to regent point marina soon

ATOMIC bomb???? aka atomic 4 inboard!
07/28/2009

well i know i want to fix er' up, i have done a lot of reading and the A4's seem to be good motors... BUT only if you have a GOOD working bilge blower. the A4 that i have has rust on it nothing to bad or thick, so i will ospho (this acid we use on the schooners) to clean the rust off after chipping as much off as you can, you sand it, then ospho, then wash with water, then prime/paint! i will have to re paint the whole thing. replace all spark plugs, rebuild carb, change oil, put in inline fuel filter, change oil filter(s) and flush the thing with fresh water. replace any fuel and water lines needed. new prop? this place has a new 3 blade prop for the A4 that sounds great and is $310 not to bad, but for now i will use the old prop. it seems easy to find parts for the A4??!

cleaning and painting bilge, cockpit lockers, and one or two other places!
07/27/2009

the cockpit lockers are painted fiberglass (white) but very very dirty! so for now im using a home made mix of 10oz bleach and 16 water in a spray bottle to kill mold and mildew i plan to paint them white agian once i have some money to spend. the bilge... well i have not looked at it! so i dont know what it looks like...! the anchor locker needs to be painted biggg time. its 100% bare but it has a rather harsh life so im going to do at least 3 coats of oilbased in there because the chain will eat it up, of course it will still get beat up but i can do touch ups once a year or when it needs it. i also need to strip and paint the mooring bit (sampsons post) im thinkn something that will show up so no one hits the feet on it :) maybe a brown??? i also have to do some rust busting on the large danforth, i think i will beat it off with a hammer then take 60 grit in the spots that have rust, a epoxy primer and then 2 coats of paint just to keep the rust at bay, even tho its not that bad.
wow this is just a bunch of run ons about what im going to paint
boooorrrrrinnggg!

tiller update...
07/27/2009

well i took the tiller off, and took 60grit on the RO to strip the old varnish, and surface rot... now i have it sanded and just need to cut the butt off, and rebuild the spot that the bracket is bolted im going to fill the holes there with thick epoxy and then brush neat epoxy over the rot and the butt of the tiller, after making the wood "thirsty" with a heat lamp! then im going to revarnish it with 6 coats of z-spar. ill put photos up as i go

I dont know much about the repairs But the Heat lamp scares me.

a heat lamp is just a light bulb that gives off heat like you see with snakes and birds that are kept in side, the idea here is to dry the wood out for a few hours so you know you dont seal water into the wood, not a big deal.
