well i got a good day and a half of hard (HARD!!!) work done on the boat as well as spent the first night onboard the columbia!
it started with pulling the starboard seal out of the keel then started on the port side which i got about half out, then turned to the inside of the boat, spent a good 3 hours hand pumping 20-30 gals of oily nasty bilge water out in to a bucket and walk that down the latter to a used oil tank.... i found iv got to replace the rule 1500 gph pump with a new one (no big deal) as the old one showing some age. i then got a glove on and started to "dig" a inch and a half of dirt, old ply, screws, a s/s shackle!, a some old cut up wire out of the bilge by hand till i could see the keel bolts which i went after with a 1 and 1/8 socket and a shit load of pb blast! (one can of pb blast and started the next can) and was able to get one of 6 bolts off! not many... off :( and then had to pack up... iv got on of the bare ply sole boards home and im gonna prime it with killz and maybe paint or because im going to make a new one soon just leave as primed.
the new work list is as follows
replace fore/port bulkhead as it is all gone to hell with some rot and was thin any way so im going to use marine ply with epoxy and a layer of glass on the side with the head. then prime with killz and paint.
add those cool litle rain guards to the 2 ports that open
clean the bilge with a realy realy heavy duty cleaner, then at some time repaint it white
replace bilge pump and float
drop keel 1/2 inch and rebed
add sole support in one spot

well i just got a phone call from my boss (the schooner captain) turns out they want me to be full time crew and live onboard! this is good and bad...
good because i get paid, get to live on a boat, and it full out rocks!
its bad tho because i wont have as much time on my boat.
on the other hand i get paid $50 a day so will bring in about 1k a month with tips and i will be working till dec so around 6k saved up! then i will be sailing south and wont spend money there and will put maybe half of it in a CD before leaving and let it make more money!
so i need to get the boat in the water and get arounf to regent point marina soon

well i know i want to fix er' up, i have done a lot of reading and the A4's seem to be good motors... BUT only if you have a GOOD working bilge blower. the A4 that i have has rust on it nothing to bad or thick, so i will ospho (this acid we use on the schooners) to clean the rust off after chipping as much off as you can, you sand it, then ospho, then wash with water, then prime/paint! i will have to re paint the whole thing. replace all spark plugs, rebuild carb, change oil, put in inline fuel filter, change oil filter(s) and flush the thing with fresh water. replace any fuel and water lines needed. new prop? this place has a new 3 blade prop for the A4 that sounds great and is $310 not to bad, but for now i will use the old prop. it seems easy to find parts for the A4??!

the cockpit lockers are painted fiberglass (white) but very very dirty! so for now im using a home made mix of 10oz bleach and 16 water in a spray bottle to kill mold and mildew i plan to paint them white agian once i have some money to spend. the bilge... well i have not looked at it! so i dont know what it looks like...! the anchor locker needs to be painted biggg time. its 100% bare but it has a rather harsh life so im going to do at least 3 coats of oilbased in there because the chain will eat it up, of course it will still get beat up but i can do touch ups once a year or when it needs it. i also need to strip and paint the mooring bit (sampsons post) im thinkn something that will show up so no one hits the feet on it :) maybe a brown??? i also have to do some rust busting on the large danforth, i think i will beat it off with a hammer then take 60 grit in the spots that have rust, a epoxy primer and then 2 coats of paint just to keep the rust at bay, even tho its not that bad.
wow this is just a bunch of run ons about what im going to paint
boooorrrrrinnggg!

the sole is just ply with no epoxy or fiberglass or any cover on it...
so with it all unscrewed (it has to come out to find the keel bolts) im going to roll on floor paint with non skid on the top, and for the under side killz and a coat of rustoleum paint
