It is with heavy heart that we report the passing of a great cruiser. Living Well was lost to the storm last week and is awaiting removal from Saint George Island beach. All hands were rescued by USCG. We had many good years on this vessel and miss her dearly. We had sold her 2 1/2 years ago. This happened as a new owner was having her delivered by a delivery Capt.

2/27 Saturday. Left Rodriguez Key and made Marathon about 3:00pm. Moved straight to Sisters Creek and took a spot next to Nauticus (Al and Rosie). Dropped the anchor and Mary Ann backed LW in perfect for a tie up but I lost the line about 6" from the mangrove so it took three more tries before I could get the upstream, upwind line secured. Set the second anchor and stern lines, checked all the attachments, and dinghied to shore to the office. Bingo, I drew number 51 on the waiting list for a ball.

2/28 Sunday. Breakfast at the American Legion and Dinner at Fl Keys St & Lobster Restuarant

2/29 (leap) Monday. Happy hour on Nauticus with Al Rosie Gene Charlene Rick and Donna.

3/01&02. Worked on the boat

3/03 Thursday. Mary Ann is taking pine needle basket making classes from 1-4. Happy hour on Stray Cat with Al & Rosie and Rick & Donna.

3/04 Friday. Took the bus to Key West and had a good day of looking and shopping and eating. Deep Red Shrimp at Conch Republic and later philly steak n cheese at Fogertys. Crowded bus ride all the way down and all the way back.

3/05 Saturday. WHAM mic #1 arrived and does not function with the speaker. Keys Fisheries with Al & Rosie and Rick and Donna

3/06 Sunday. Breakfast at the American Legion then at 3:00 pm got a call for a mooring ball, M-10, and we jumped on it. Both anchors were heavily secured to the bottom but perseverance prevailed and we motored past the balls with Al and Rosie and Rick and Donna and grabbed our ball, threw the shower bags in the dinghy, motored in, showered and celebrated with a lobster dinner at the Florida Keys Steak and Lobster house.

3/07 Monday. I don't remember. (What I did, not the day)

3/08 Tuesday. Lunch split at the Stuffed Pig and then Sparkys for shrimp with Al & Rosie, then a stroll to Havana Jacks, Oceanside Key Colony then a cab back.

3/09 Wednesday. WHAM mic #2 arrived. It works. Happy hour on Living Well with Rick & Donna and Al & Rosie.

3/10 Thursday. Mary Ann did Pine Needle basketry all day while I walked to the post office to return a radio mic, then I went to Burdines for dinghy gas, then Mary Ann and I went to FKS&L Restuarant and shared a beef kabob early bird special.

3/11 Friday. Spent the day at the marina, laundry, and wifi connections. Late lunch at FKS&L Restuarant

2/9 Tuesday. No aerobics, the leader is sick. Afternoon volleyball.

2/13 Saturday. Nothing going on until 5pm for the Trivia game at St Francis. We did ok but did not win.

2/14 Sunday. Beach Church for Valentines Day then back to the boat to sit out the winds.

2/15 Monday. Winds let up a little today so we went to Volleyball Beach for lunch with Alexander's at Chat n Chill, ran into Jason, from CHBS and Alaska, he is on West Wind, sold his boat, then we wandered around a bit then back to the boat to get ready to leave in the morning. Realized we had not paid the bill at Chat n Chill, so arranged to have Ollie from Dejarlo pick up money from Dave and pay the tab. Great people. Still blowing 22-28 kts.

2/16 Tuesday. Departed Georgetown at 7:00 this am with Sanity II. A little rough in the cut and large rollers in the Exuma Sound, but traveling downwind in 12-18 kts and motoring was not all that uncomfortable. Rounded through Dothan Cut at 2:00 pm and found plenty of room at Black Point. Anchored, went ashore for hot showers, drinks, and Pizza at DeShamons and arranged breakfast for tomorrow while we are doing laundry.

2/17 Wednesday. Went ashore and started laundry, had a great breakfast, finished laundry and took the clothes to the boat. Returned to shore and rented a golf cart with Dave and Mary and toured the entire island. To the South is a development that was started and abandoned like a lot of building on grandiose plans and insufficient funding or investment. To the North there is a large sand pile, seen for miles, that is the dredging from the North bay along Dothan Cut that is built for use when the west winds keep the main harbor unusable. Saw some lobster there on the bottom but left them alone. Returned the cart and went to Scorpios for a late lunch early dinner then back to the boats for the night.

2/18 Thursday. Left Black Point at 0800 with Sanity II who stopped at Staniel for water while we continued to Warderick Wells taking mooring ball 18 in the North Field. Had chicken Parmesan on Sanity II and then back to ride out the incessant winds, 20-25 all day and all night

2/19 Friday. Still the winds and still 20+. Went to shore at noon, paid the mooring fee, bought some Andros material, walked to Boo Boo Hill with Dave and Mary then back to the boat. Tomorrow we run to Nassau for fuel and water then Sunday overnight to arrive Florida Monday at noon. Dinghy motor on the deck and dinghy stored for travel. Next need for the dinghy is Dinner Key, FL.

2/20 Saturday. Winds have died down to just around 20 and we dropped the ball at 0700 and wind sailed the entire trip to Nassau, close hauled to beam reach. Fueled up, showered, rinsed the boat filled the water tanks and went out for a great dinner at Mary Ann's favorite Chinese Restuarant.

2/21. Sunday, Starbucks and light grocery shopping then back the boat out of the slip at ~0900, cleared the harbor, and began the hobby horse ride to Northwest Pass, mainsail full and running. Passed the light, there actually is a pole and a light there now, about 1530 and started the glide across the banks. This is where we separated from Sanity II as they are going to North Rocks and Ft Lauderdale and we to Cat/Gun and South Miami. Just before midnight and almost to Gun Cay the clew on the mainsail tore out as the threads sewing the webbing had sun rotted. Stopped long enough to roll in the sail then proceeded through the cut and into the Atlantic and Gulf Stream. It is now Monday.

2/22, Monday. Continuing to Miami in quarter following rollers building from calm to 6'-7' and with no main for steadying the roll made it an uncomfortable crossing. Hand steered some in the surfing seas but auto worked well the rest of the time. Very busy freighter traffic with AIS track crossing down to 1.2 miles on one of the seven close enough to watch. Love my AIS. Arrived Miami 0630 and Dinner Key Marina at 0800, attached to a mooring ball, went to sleep. 1200 went ashore and ran into Helwigs from MadSam on the ball next to us. They are leaving today. Ate lunch at Grove Bay Grill, shopped at Fresh Market, then back to the boat for some TV and sleep.

2/23 Tuesday. Stayed onboard and caught up on rest from overnight trip.

2/24. Wednesday. Took the shuttle to shore and then Dave and Mary drove down and took Mary Ann and I and CHARLIE and Anita to Berries for lunch. A good meal and terrific conversations. Almost stranded ashore because the shuttle was quitting and hour early due to wind. Saw him leaving and flagged him down. Whew!

2/25. Thursday. Dinghied to shore and walked to Coconut Grove, shopped awhile then walked to Flanagans for terrific onion tanglers, philly beef and cheese and lemon cream chicken with fettuccini. Enough for two meals. Stopped at Fresh Market on the way back and stuffed the coffers. Leaving tomorrow.

2/26. Friday. Left Dinner Key at 0800 and motor sailed to Rodriguez Key at Tavernier, just past Key Largo. Fixing bourbon salmon and blue cheese burger for dinner. Marathon tomorrow.

Feb 5, 2016, Friday. Water aerobics, Steve included, and then a short trip to GTown and MA bought some earrings she had seen earlier and added a necklace to the booty. Met Dave and Mary outside Mimms where he told me they could get his carb jet in 2 weeks for almost $70 and a gasket for $55. He said no. We went to Peace n Plenty for a great lunch, grabbed a few grocery items, and back to the boat. Mary Ann went to shore with me and knitted/crocheted while I played volleyball. Back to the boat to make pasta salad and brownies, then off to Sanity II for grilled tuna and Mahi. A great meal and a great time.

Saturday, Feb 6. Water aerobics again, then Steve made a water run. Made plans to go to Splash bar n grill mid afternoon and had a great trip and very good food. Dave had pizza, Mary Ann and Mary had grilled cheese and lobster sandwiches, and Steve had a mozzarella and mushroom stuffed burger. Back to the boat for the evening and prep for the expected winds due tomorrow.

Sunday, Feb 7. Beach Church started in calm winds but lasted longer than the winds would hold off. Left church in 20+ winds and made it to the boat fine, but wet. W dos picked up and swung to W to WNW at a steady 25 kts with gusts to 38 kts. Several boats dragged and at one time I thought LW was dragging but turned out the rode was unwinding across the windlass since I had not secured it after increasing the amount I had out. Secured it and rode out the rest with no problem. Plans to go to the SuperBowl party at St Francis but the weather was not conducive to leaving the boat alone, in high winds, after dark so we opted to stay aboard and fix our own coney dogs, and Mac n cheese, and watch the game in the salon. A good choice, a great game, and for us a happy ending. Way to go Peyton and Broncos. Congratulations. Hang in there Cam, your day will come. The front passed and overnight the winds calmed and sleep came easily.

Monday, Feb. 8. No aerobics today and the air is a bit cool anyway (76.2F.) so we went for a shore walk and collected palm froms for weaving. Yesterday there were only 31 boats at Volleyball beach, 18 at Monument Beach, and 14 at Sand Dollar beach, but several had moved to the West side to duck the West winds. Still, there are less than 1/2 the boats I expected with Regatta coming in two weeks and 1/4 the number expected. No weather Windows for crossing the stream have kept many away. Off to Volleyball in awhile, then who knows what. It's vacation in the Bahamas.

Jan 29 cont. Supply boat came in about 4pm (MLW) and passed about 10' from Living Well then parked at Roosevelt Nixon's dock, the Yacht Club, unloading a pickup truck onto the dock and then supplies to the big pontoon transfer boat. Worked until 10 pm then left and disappeared into the darkness.

Jan 30. 0630 saw Gratitude dropping the mooring and heading to the Jumentos. 0730 and Sanity II and Living Well, joined by Star Gazer Vll, and we departed into the Exuma Sound where we enjoyed winds on beam reach and broad reach at 12-18 all day and arrived Georgetown at 2pm. 75 boats at Hamburger and Monument, another 50 at Volleyball, and I have not counted the ones at Sand Dollar. All 3 of us found a spot at Volleyball, settled in, rested, and MA and I took the dinghy and went float about. Dave and Mary were resting when we went by so we went to Chat n Chill for Hot Dogs, cold drinks, and some fries. KB was a little sullen so we left him alone. Kendra was absolutely normal. Back to the boat for the evening. It is GREAT to be here.

Jan 31 Sunday, bacon n eggs n English muffins ala Steve and then off to Beach Church for MA to sing in the choir.(photo attached) Frank from s/v Local Knowledge gave the sermon. MA made plans for the next several days with the lady friends. TV had Maryland squeezing by Ohio St so I watched the end of that. Went to St Francis Hotel with Sanity II and the four of us played Trivia, Georgetown style (no different) and we were in the running but not the winning. No wine or Rum for us. Sanity II had dinghy motor problems again so we gave them a tow to the mother ship to await morning repair work. Back to LW for the night. More next month.

February 1, 2016. Monday, the four of us headed across Elizabeth Harbor to Georgetown where we went to the Yacht club for lunch, then Dave and I headed to BTC to update data plans. Dave bought a phone and got set up. I tried but their credit card machine was out of paper so it could not be used. No problem, I will get the debit card from MA get some cash from the bank and be set. MA and Mary are off shopping so first I had to find them then I was informed that MA left the card on the boat. No data today. Met the girls, did some grocery shopping, then back across the Harbor to the boats.

Feb 2. MA started the day by picking up Mary and going to water aerobics. She returned and had a half hour to get ready for women's Bible study at St Francis followed by a ladies luncheon. Dave and I took the opportunity to go back to Georgetown, get cash from the Bank, buy data from BTC, eat lunch at Peace n Plenty, go to St Francis and have a few drinks before the women were finished. Went from there to Volleyball beach where I played volleyball.

Feb 3. Blowing pretty hard, but MA was off to water Aerobics, at 9:00 am. Rest was the order of the day for MA so I went to play volleyball and got in several rousing games in 20+ knots of wind.

Feb 4. A slightly calmer start to the day. MA went to water aerobics, I worked around the boat and then we relocated the boat a little closer to shore and with more wiggle room at anchor. We lunched aboard then dinghied to Sanity II and the four of us went to the hole 3 cut and then walked across to the Sound side beach area, walked some, relaxed, then headed to St Francis to get in the Super Bowl pool and have an afternoon social. Left there and went to Volleyball beach where MA knitted and Steve played volleyball.

Jan 25 anchor up and headed to Black Point. Did laundry, took COLD showers, lunch at Deshamons and a walk about. Pizza dinner with the six of us and Vic and Gigi on Salty Turtle. Got new boat card CD and gave them Bob & Tom. Three boats here when we arrived, 22 when we left.

Jan 26 anchor up and headed to Little Farmers, grabbed a mooring ball, drinks at bar

Jan 27 walk around island, drinks with Terry Bain at Ocean Cabin, talk to Tasha? at grocery, back to Ty's which was closed for cooking so back to yacht club for a burger and then to the boat to get ready for dinner. and visit. Dinner at LFYC ( lobster) A really great meal.

Jan 28 took dinghies to old wreck and beach combed, ran around to Ty's Grill & Bar, drinks and food, barely. They are out of cheese, chicken, hot dogs, ribs, and slaw. Supply boat coming tonight or whenever, we think. Snorkeled, showered, and back to the boat. Happy hour on Sanity II. Winds and squalls likely tonight.

January 29 three squalls overnight, the first with 35+ wind and the last with heavy rain. Breezy morning. Still no supply boat. Leaving tomorrow for Georgetown with Sanity II while Gratitude continues to the Jumentos and Ragged Islands. Dinner tonight aboard Gratitude.

January 19. A wind day and all 3 dinghies stayed with their mommy ship all day. Lighter winds tomorrow, so will take trash to Staniel, grocery shop, try the BTC office for more iPad data, get some fuel, and eat at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club. Sound impressive? Photo to follow.

January 20. We dinghies to Staniel Cay and went directly to Isles General Store where we disposed of trash and replaced some non-perishables then went to the Yacht Club. Bought fuel for the dinghies then walked up the hill to the Bahama Telephone Company so we could read the sign on the door that they were at Black Point and would be back at 2:00pm. Darn, now we will have to go to the Club and sip Rum Coolers until the ladies return from the Red or Yellow stores with their treasures. That didn't take long so the six of us went in for a nice meal. After lunch we walked back to Batelco and did what we could to keep our data lines operational. Wheeee! We then made the trip back to the boats, 6.89 miles, and settled in for the evening. All in all a good day. High winds again Saturday so decided to stay tucked in at Pipe Creek.

January 21. A reasonable day so the six of us decided to walk the Sound side beach. Gratitude and Living Well made it over to the shore but Sanity II was back at their boat, obviously with dinghy motor issues. Van and I went out and shuttled them to shore and we had a very interesting stroll. Van found a number of Critons, which were not identified until later, and numerous shells and pieces of sea glass were collected. We returned to the boats and did some troubleshooting on Daves motor. Restriction in the fuel filter. Cleared the problem and motor ran fine. Afternoon tasks and snores and then off to Sanity II for happy hour, shrimp linguine, pineapple rum right side up cake, and a rousing game of 31. Back to the boats for a windy night with more predicted tomorrow and Saturday.

Jan 22. Preparations for strong winds tonight and tomorrow. Reading and watching old episode of Boston Legal.

Jan 23 Reading, eye splicing double braid, repairing sound blanket for generator, tuning a conch shell horn I made from a shell Mary Ann gave me a few years ago, and then about 4pm POW, my anchor snubber broke on one side and while I was retrieving the grabber the other side gave way. Spent the next 1/2 hrs replacing the snubber line. All is well now. The anchor has not moved at all in the four days of wind, current, and swinging. A good thing.

Jan 24, A very bouncy night, sustained wind since Friday afternoon at 22-25 with gusts over 35. Winds were 30-32 sustained for over an hour yesterday (just before the anchor snubber gave up). Highest we saw was 38.9. Winds are supposed to subside today and we will probably head for Black Point tomorrow

Jan 22. Preparations for strong winds tonight and tomorrow. Winds were moderately strong over the night and a bit too breezy today to go float about in the dinghy so we stayed aboard. Mary Ann read and I pottered around with trivial stuff, sorting nuts and bolts, etc. eye splicing both ends of a new dinghy line, playing free cell and sudoku, and pacing. We watched an old Boston Legal episode and retired. Whew, wore me out.

Jan 23, the wind made its West swing over night and is now settling to NW at 25, gusting 35. None of the predicted 50-60 mph squalls developed near us. Tomorrow marks the start of a couple days of settled weather so we will be moving to Black Point for pizza, laundry, and some supplies before moving on to Georgetown. Weather will dictate if we push South to the Raggeds and Jumentos but the probability is diminishing. Working on a sound blanket for the generator and some undetermined piddly tasks for today.

January 12. The seas calmed about 2000hrs (8:00pm) and we had a great night off Normans Cay. Over a dozen anchor lights were observed on the inside of the cay. Six boats on the beach side including us. The Clipper ship Sheri is cooking on came in early morning. We hauled anchor at 0930 and headed for Warderick Wells South Anchorage at Hog Cay. This is close to the Pirates Lair that MA likes. Gratitude, Sanity II, and Living Well have arranged moorings there. We will probably stay 4-5 nights.

January 13. Dinghied around South end of Warderick and up to Park Office through Emerald Rock. Only 5 boats moored. Checked in and paid BNT dues and $30/night mooring. Dinghied back to boat for lunch and then ashore for a walk. Pirate Lair was disgusting. The fresh water well had been clogged and the recent rains had filled the entire basin where the sleeping areas had been. The water was stagnant and green algae was abundant. The fire pit was under water, also. What a shame. At five pm we had social on shore with all five boats in the South mooring field. A good time. Dark when we left for boats and the Hunter 30, Solano, had dinghy motor issues and Steve pulled them off the rocks and to their boat. Winds are 20+ and predicted at 30+ tomorrow.

January 14. Winds were as predicted and we stayed on board all day. Installed 2nd electronic thermostat and both thermocouples and now have separate control over fz and ff temps. Working very well for now. Want to install pump for condenser cooling but need a few more parts.
Great dinner with meat loaf, potatoes, salad and good company ( Mary Ann).

January 15. Strong winds overnight and coupled with tidal flow made some interesting conflict of forces. Cleaned up some odds and ends and then radioed Gratitude and Sanity II for a shore lunch. A couple of Norwegians hiked in from the North end and chatted awhile. They were walking and mapping the trails to place an geo-hiker or something similar. Willie Dawes is leaving tomorrow to head South. Dinghies around the entire Hog Cay mooring area then back to the boat for some serious contemplating about what to do next. I may have to sleep on that.

January 16, arose to a beautiful day and after concurring with the others decided to use it to move to Cambridge. Got everything stowed and made the three hour tour to Cambridge, picking up the last ball available for boats under 60' but less than 150'. A really nice day so we had lunch then loaded up the snorkeling gear and headed to the Sea Aquarium. Arrived right at high tide and had a great swim. The tide started out and surprised me at how quick it picked up. It surprised Lauren even more as she was unable to get back to the pocket and Dave took the dinghy to pick her up. Returned to the moorings and settled in for a dinner for six on Living Well of potato soup and cornbread withLaurens homemade coleslaw and Mary A.s fresh baked cookies. A lively game of Farkle kept us all up into the wee hours (9:30 pm) and it was a good night for Steve because Mary Ann won and there was peace on the boat.

January 17. Windy and sunny to start so the six of us dinghies to shore for a walk to the Sound side and little Bell Rock. Returned to the dinghy and found that the prudent ones had anchored the dinghy nose to the wind and waves and the rest of us bailed water to get the dinghies ready for the return. The projected squalls came, blew, rained, and left. Pizzas tonight.

January 18. A good day to move, so we made the short run to Pipe Creek and got all three boats anchored. Van and Lauren went visiting, Dave and Mary went to Compass Cay Marina, and S & MA relaxed on the boat. Dave and Mary returned to say that Compass Cay Marina charges $10 per person to step on the dock regardless of purchases. Ouch.
