Photo - Varnish after complete stripping and application of ten coats. July 2009
After nearly two months the stripping and application of ten coats of varnish is finished. The true dark color of the teak is back, and ready for another ocean. It had been since 1997 in Greece when it was last stripped down to bare wood. We used International brand "Schooner" varnish this time, the only high quality varnish available down here. The results were fantastic! It was a massive job and I was very fortunate to have a very skilled team. LONE STAR looks great and all the hardware is fastened and bedded back in place. It is nice to have the boat back in one piece again and I am now moving forward with the rest of the repair list including engine work, and new awnings and sailcovers. I am waiting for bottom paint to arrive and then will coordinate a haul out to include an insurance survey. The weather has been very warm these past few days with highs nearing 70. Cold weather is on the way later this week, but all in all it has been very dry, and not too cold.
