Are You Reading?

Hi There,

01 October 2013

Hustle & Bustle

For those of you who won't give up reading - c'mon, it's all boring now :)

Back To Work

Doug and I enjoyed our last week of freedom while the kids got settled into their new routine at school. Saylor was pretty freaked at the idea that her parents would be going back to work soon and she might have to go with strangers to school. After three days with our new neighbours walking with us, [...]

Great Time

Nice sail up the Strait but not near enough wind to really get going so it was a bit of a motor. Good to see Roger and hear the turmoil of the America's Cup and Oracle caught cheating. They'll be in for more turmoil when those crazy Kiwis make landfall in San Fran! We continued North and couldn't [...]

At Sea Again

Hard to break the habit of blogging once we are out on the water so had to post something even if no one is reading anymore. We have fit right back in to life ashore although both Doug & I haven't started work yet. We've been busy getting the house back in order which should have been easy except [...]

Go East Long Shot

18 July 2013 | Day 3 from Hawaii
Susan
We've been heading on a NE course to try to take us clear a low pressure that's forming North of us. The plan would be to take advantage of the southerly winds that occur on it's back side but we aren't making enough easting. Looks like we'll be right in the middle of this low and will have to wait for it to move west instead of us moving east. Either way, there will be more than enough wind for us and we'll reef like crazy unless Charlie is on watch. He likes to keep the speed up for fishing. Riley is rarely seen as he has 30 new books from Alouette and he is determined to read them all before landfall. When he isn't reading he is hanging out on the bowsprit, regardless of the weather! Today he saw us smash a huge lightbulb that was floating just ahead of us then we landed on it. At any time of day Saylor is hovering around the galley, waiting to pounce on whatever food is being prepared. The seas have eased and we aren't getting the cockpit crashers that we received the first few days. The fishing has continued although nothing seems as exciting as that Marlin. With Charlie's birthday fast approaching, we purchased for him the various fish pennants that the Fishers fly to show their catch when they make port. We bought all the ones except the Marlin flag as we figured it would be bad luck to buy one that he hadn't caught yet. Now we'll have to go back to Hawaii to get that one.
