Are You Reading?

Hi There,

01 October 2013

Hustle & Bustle

For those of you who won't give up reading - c'mon, it's all boring now :)

Back To Work

Doug and I enjoyed our last week of freedom while the kids got settled into their new routine at school. Saylor was pretty freaked at the idea that her parents would be going back to work soon and she might have to go with strangers to school. After three days with our new neighbours walking with us, [...]

Great Time

Nice sail up the Strait but not near enough wind to really get going so it was a bit of a motor. Good to see Roger and hear the turmoil of the America's Cup and Oracle caught cheating. They'll be in for more turmoil when those crazy Kiwis make landfall in San Fran! We continued North and couldn't [...]

At Sea Again

Hard to break the habit of blogging once we are out on the water so had to post something even if no one is reading anymore. We have fit right back in to life ashore although both Doug & I haven't started work yet. We've been busy getting the house back in order which should have been easy except [...]

Home Stretch

28 July 2013 | Day 14 to Victoria
Susan
We have finally pulled out the wooly jumpers as it started to get cold when we hit 43 degrees North. We caught up with the High (or what was left of it) so we are on the final courseline to the Juan de Fuca Strait. It's been a very easy go and we can hardly complain at all. All of the boats left before us: Sarah Jean II has been motoring for nine days far north of us; Alouette is stopped ahead of us waiting for a system to pass; Jazz is two days behind us; and Songline is even further back. Not sure how we have managed to far the best of the lot. It must be all of Doug's clean living. Of course we are still 600 miles to go so that's still plenty of time to get our butts kicked.

Yesterday was a good fishing day as the boys caught three 10kg tunas. We forced them to release the third one as our fridge/freezer is filled more than when we left. Charlie was so unhappy that we couldn't keep it, couldn't weigh it, couldn't take a picture with it, couldn't practice filleting. He was mad! Not sure what this kid wants me to do with all the fish! I'll have to start salting and sun-drying them on deck or soak them in vinegar like the boats do without a fridge/freezer.

We gave the kids some candy yesterday and Saylor was on high speed. She wouldn't stop talking (comes by that honestly) and she was completely bouncing off the walls. Not bad when you can throw them outside to play but not so easy onboard here. Note to self - limit the candy! Charlie tells me it is his birthday eve tonight. Another birthday at sea for him and he says his favourite present is to be home by Saturday. We hope our friends in Hawai'i don't have too much trouble with the hurricane coming their way. Stay safe!
