First Day Back On the Lake

02 July 2015 | Holland Michigan
Bob/Weathr is a bit cool but sunny
So, if a sailor leaves sailing for a while does he or she loose "their sea legs", that is their familiarity with boat motion and their associated confidence? The answer is absolutely. Well, what about dogs? The answer again is absolutely and I can speak from first hand observations. This morning, very early, we headed out to cross the lake. It was a little rough, 14 knots from the NE, 3 to 4 foot waves. Alice and I struggled a bit but Kody, OMG, it was if there was a massive thunderstorm right on top of us. She was shaking, panting and frozen. I tried consoling her, tried treats, wrapping her in a blanket all to no avail. She had lost her sea legs and her confidence. It took nearly half the trip for her to settle down and start moving about. Our little companion had finally figured it out and was back. Thank God. This next six weeks would be a real hell for her if she couldn't find her sea legs.

Lucky Bird did great, the auto-pilot worked so we didn't have to, the wind generator pumped out more juice than we could use so I had to turn it off and we buggied across Lake Michigan at times doing 8 to 9 knots. Not to shabbie don'tcha say.

So day one is in the can and we are at peace, we trust any of our readers are as well.

Lucky Bird's Photos - Main
This is our second journey south to the Caribbean. This time we've chosen to exit Lake Michigan and proceed south through the in-land waterway system to Mobile. We'll start around Labor Day and take our time exploring the history of middle America.
