Quite the Queen.

Charlotte, NC, was named for Queen Charlotte of England, and I loved all the street signs with crowns on them!
The city is in the process of upgrading their airport to be "fit for a queen" and our drive in the afternoon along Queens Road West lined with gorgeous homes "fit for a queen" left us most impressed with this clean, green (as in tree lined streets) city.
We only had a day here to explore so, after a delicious cup of cappuccino at the 7th Street Market Place, we caught the blue line train to the end of the track and back for an overview of the city.
We tried to visit the Aviation Museum and Freedom Park but our GPS couldn't seem to locate either, so we enjoyed a craft beer in Noda, an artsy community nearby instead!
The sunset over the city skyline was beautiful.
A glass of wine at BLUE Restaurant (we had to stop in there of course!) was interesting as our bartender filled us in on stories of the riots last week. Many windows of our hotel were broken and boarded up. Local artists were invited to paint the boards in an effort to make beauty from ashes (my interpretation!) and they have.
Dinner at Roosters was delicious...wood fire grilled...
we haven't tasted soul food yet!
The queens people were the most impressive tho - everyone so friendly and chatty...
left us feeling totally chuffed!
