Hiking and Haines

Last night we found a unique campsite on Mosquito Lake in the middle of the boonies just over the USA border.
But just before the border we stopped at the Aurora Trailhead and walked a fabulous 6 miles into the wild.
It was raining when we popped JURNEE's top and set up camp , so we hunkered down with a yummy bottle of wine while I cooked up some of the halibut Nev caught in Valdez and let him beat me in another game of 3:13!
The score now stands at 9:3 in my favor... it's driving him nuts!
Haines is a really pretty little town, population 2,000.
I've read the books of Heather Lende who lives here - the same one who I thought lived in Homer!!
We hiked our way through the shops here and had fun picking out little gifts to carry home...
and then we hiked out to Battery Point in the rain... it was gorgeous despite the wet!
The colors are starting to turn, the mushrooms abundant along the trail, the streams clear and burbling, the trees and shrubs a brilliant green... a slice of Heaven that brought back such good memories of our life on BLUE in Alaska.
I was so happy! (Nev grumped a bit about the walk, of course!!)
Happy in Haines...
wish we could stay longer...
the sun is scheduled to shine here on Wednesday!!
