Sintra's history is as steeped in royalty as the rippling mountains it's built on and around are covered in ferns and flowers and exotic gardens and palaces!
In other words: beautiful!
We had such fun there, especially at the large market where we shopped till we dropped finding all kinds of treasures!!
I came home with a Cataplana copper cooking dish and old cow bells, Leslie bought an exquisite hand stitched table cloth, Mariella found beautiful pottery dishes, granny bought a suitcase, Sasha loaded up on honey liqueurs for her friends, and Linda bought bread and cheese and cockerel wine stoppers for us all! Caroline got all the vendors names and plans to have the rest of the market shipped home!!!
The old center is also an adventure if narrow cobbled streets and lots of amazing artsy shops...
we all went off in different directions following our noses and tastes...
After a little more shopping I found a delightful little pub overlooking the town and enjoyed a glass of delicious Portuguese Douro Vino tinto while writing postcards...
It was a wonderful way to spend our Sunday!
