05/10/09, Port Maurelle, Vava'u, Tonga
The tsunami had a less devastating effect for us than in Niue Toputapu. We were warned 10 minutes before hand and didn't really take the warning seriously. We did however drop our mooring and meandered out into the deeper water, then watched as the beach became a waterfall and disappeared every 2 to 3 minutes over the next hour or so. This photo is of the beach in Port Maurelle if you know it, you would know that this reef is never uncovered.

Rather a shaky photo, but this whale was breaching right next to the boat. One second later would have been a better photo to catch the barrel roll he did before crashing back into the water.

31/08/09, Vava'u, Tonga
Our son Thomas, his wife Heidi and our two grandchildren, Manaia and Isla joined us in Tonga for two weeks. We had a ball showing them a little bit about the boat, sailing, Tongan life with lots of time spent in the water, on water toys and on the beach. Check out our gallery for more photos from two very proud Grandparents....
