Day 5

17 January 2011 | South Atlantic
casey
Made 142 miles yesterday. Then strong NE headwind slowed us down and pushed us again blow 50 south. We still made 101 miles for the day and we are back on track now. I think we will be doing this bouncing north and south between high and low pressure systems for most of the trip.

Yesterday while we were in the cockpit enjoying the good sailing and the sun I glanced at the radar and there was an AIS target showing. Here we thought were were the only ones for hundreds of miles, and there was a ship 12 miles away. We couldnt even see it, but were able to pick it up with radar and AIS. What good tools to have aboard. I called him on the radio to ask if they had seen any fishing boats around for the last few day, he said no and didnt seem very chatty, so we wished him a good trip and went back to sunning.
