Milestones (perceived)

07 February 2011 | South Atlantic
Jamie
We are approaching a couple of biggies for me in the way of milestones. We're about to cross the prime meridian (that is point of longitude will be 000.00.000) and be north of 40 degrees South latitude for the first time in 3 years. Out of the "Roaring Forties" at last, which speaks to me of smooth sailing without threat of extreme weather, all fair winds and following seas from here on out, right?? Haha hardiharhar, laughs the sea! In truth, while the 40s have certainly ROARED at us at times, we have also been becalmed twice and had some of the nicest sailing days anywhere that we can remember. And, I realize that gales and squalls are subject to pop up anywhere and that our forward progress could be stopped by headwinds before I even get to send this message! You get it all out here and the more I accept that, the better the ride for me. Last night, the GPS also told us that we have less than 1000 miles to go. Nice to see one less digit in that figure that I've been watching since it initially read 3300! We are content though and happy to at sea on our boat.
