Arriving here at Aqua Verde after an easy sail North West to our first Baja anchorage for this cruising season was exciting the beauty of Roca Salitaria rising tall & straight out of the Sea of Cortez is a majestic welcome to the little fishing village. We anchored Magic Carpet in 50 feet of water using over 200 feet of 5/16 chain and our CQR anchor to hold her in place. A cool breeze flowed through our hatches, anchored with friends close by was a treat! Pot Lucks, snorkeling and fishing outings kept us busy. Several trips into little village surprised us with all the good stuff available. Aqua Verde is locally famous for its goat cheese & hot homemade tortillas but this season the local trendea had a good selection of fresh produce and fruit. And of course fresh eggs right from the hens no middle man involved here everything is direct. It always fascinates how the custom here is for the locals to fence themselves in and the cows. Horses, sheep and goats to room the area. Always returning home at dark for a special feeding. It’s fun to watch the moon rise & the stars shinning from the decks of Magic Carpet. Fishing is great, we caught lots of keeper grouper & trigger fish trolling in Aladdin. Best of all the Captain landed a 42 inch Dorado off the Mother ship during our sail to Aqua Verde. Our freezer is full and the Ceviche is fantastic. We spent 11 wonderful days enjoying all that this area has to offer, than Murphy law struck! Our bullet proof electrical system craped out. The solar panels and wind generator were working perfect, but our battery’s system was dying, the refrigerator and freezer were shutting down! Magic Carpets 6 volt golf cart batteries were 7 years old, the Captain had always kept them charged at 70% or better. We had talked about replacing them, but they were working great. Than just over night that was the end of them. We started Magic Carpets trusty Yanmar one more time and pulled anchor and headed to Puerto Escondido where we have access to several help resources and dock power to keep Magic Carpets systems alive. With an A. B.C. plan in place we are hopeful we will be able to solve our troubles soon.
