06/30/2009, Aqua Verde

Departed San Evaristo at 10:00 hours arrived at Aqua Verde at 17:00 hours we haven't had much time to explore yet but this is one of the nicer anchorages we have been so far, they have a rural fishing village a market, restaurant and two schools, and a lot of goats, we will be staying here for a few days, were out of tortilla's and Donna wants some goat cheese. We are still out of internet and phone range, we have have been taking a lot of pictures and they will be posted as soon as possible. The further north you get in the sea of Cortez the hotter it gets, this morning at 06:00 hours it was 85 degrees, Donna informed me the Admirals Report is Almost complete, Keep checking, more updates coming. Leave comments on the Blog we enjoy reading them and its nice to here from family and friends. Greg and Donna Lou

Isla San Francisco to Colleta Evaristo
Captian Greg S/V Magic Carpet
06/30/2009, Colleta Evaristo

Departed Isla San Francisco 11:45 hours and arrived at Colleta Evaristo at 14:40 hours, easy run, 15 kt SW winds following seas. San Evaristo is like Going back a 100 years in time, all dirt roads, all the houses have no plumbing or sewer all bathrooms are out houses. All the houses have dirt floors. The livestock run loose, they do have electricity, the village are mostly fishermen, with a small store, and school. Donna make friends with everyone even if she can't speak the language, she met this woman called Elizabeth and got her to cook a fish dinner for us, it was very good, it was so good that we made reservations for another night. We spent a couple hours walking through the village exploring checking out the fishermen village and the salt flats we walked a few miles miles got tired and started to hitchhike, we got a ride right away. We made it back to the boat before dark. I just got a email from my sister Nannette said that my Father was in the hospital with pneumonia, we may be hanging around here for a while to see what happens before heading any further north, were only ten or twelve hours from La Paz, we can make it back to the states in a few days, all thoughts and prayers are appreciated. Ensenada Grande to Isla San Francisco
Admirals Report S/V Magic Carpet
06/27/2009, Isla San Francisco

When at Ensenada Grande on Isla Partita, Yesterday we went to Isla Islote, and swam with the Sea Lions, One of them scared the Shit out of us, Its mating season now and while we were swimming a big 800 pound bull let us know where his territory was. We decided to go somewhere else. They look a lot bigger under water. After that we went hunting for rock scallops, we got twenty with no effort, the deepest was about 15 feet down, when we were cleaning them a cut the palm of my hand wide open, I probably should of gotten a few stitches, oh well no more diving for me for a few weeks, were watching it close for infection, were having a lot of fun here, its like having Yosemite all to yourself, we have been at a few anchorages and had the hole bay to ourselves. Oh yes Hurricane Andre fizzled out, Today we left Ensenada Grande on route to Isla San Francisco, this was a four hour passage, 15 Knot winds following seas very comfortable, we may stay here a few days depending on the wind, waves and crowds. Thanks to my lovely Wife Donna Lou my hand is healing well. Oh yes Donna wanted me to mention that she also had cleaned all the scallops. S/V Magic Carpet Greg and Donna Lou

We Hammered The Dorado
Capt Greg windy in the morning calm in the afternoon
06/06/2009, North of Isla of Ceralvo

We picked a good day to go Fishing... Started out a little windy, wind coming from the South West when headed across the Magote to catch Bait we caught Nine Mackerals in 15 mintues, our fishing guide Kiki from Cortez Club said that was plenty, we use Mackerals for Big Dorado and Marlin. After we got Mackerals we headed South through the San Lorenzo Channel towards Isla of Ceralvo, we stopped again to pick more bait, Sardinas, we use those for small Dorado, Tuna and Jack Carvalle, when we got close to the North end of Ceralvo we saw weed beds perfect Dorado Habitat, we started our harvest of Dorado, we caught several small Dorado, we switch over to lures hoping to catch bigger Dorado, No luck, we headed North of Ceralvo to a small island called Arecife de la Focca, We caught a couple of nice Dorados there but we were mostly harassed by Needle Fish, Thats a long skinny fish that is very fast, has a mouth like a crocadile with razor sharp teeth, they get to be about 15 pounds, they say there good eating but we haven't been that desparate yet. It was getting late so we decided to troll North back to La Paz, We got a Marlin Strike, About the same time we saw a big Cruiser land a Marlin. Keep on trolling, come across another weed bed, this one was full of Dorado, we filled our Ice chest, we ended up with about 50 Pounds of fillets, the Attached picture is of our fishing Guide Kiki from Cortez Club, holding one of our fish. Check out photo gallery for more photos.
