Valentine Day & Pres. Day
15 February 2010 | Stocking Island
Rick
Valentine Day brought about a nice suuny day. We said good byes to our friends on Kokopelli, they are heading south to Columbia and Loose Change who are heading south then west then north to Alaska. We spent most evenings together with the last one memorable with playing music and trying to get spoons to stay stuck on our noses, Hoku was the champ!
The following morning we waited for the tide to rise so we could squeeze out of the Red Shanks anchorage. (It's a little nerve wracking when the depth meter is showing only inched under our keels). We made our way across Elizebeth Harbor to Sand Dollar Beach where it took us 4 tries and asssorted moving before we were happy with our spot. We usually try to get as close to the beach as possible. We spent most of the day exploring Stocking Island, the above picture, with the afternoon at Volleyball Beach where Hoku met here friend Lindsay and we met several friends we had not seen in a few weeks.
Today, Pres. Day, Hoku and Katie started the day with a snorkel after we moved the boat 20 feet to reanchor, (seperate story). I made the mile trip in our dingy across the harbor to town for water, garbage and food. (I had to do it twice as I forgot my wallet the first time.) After Hoku is done with school we are going to go to the ocean side of Stocking Island to see if we can catch some lobsters. Most days Hoku is schooling with Katie and/or myself for 3-4 hours and is beginning to read by herself as well as doing quite well with math. Her favorite subject currently is drawing the daily weather on a erasable map of the Western Atlantic.
We'll be at Sand Dollar until Fri when we'll move to Emerald Bay Marina to meet the Holt clan when they arrive on Sun.
