We spent two long days motoring up the ICW from Vero Beach. The first night we stopped in Titisville which is the home city for NASA. The following morning we departed at sunrise and after several hours of motoring Katie was wiping down the bimini top when she noticed our newest crew member which had apperently joined us sometime the prior night. A 4-5 foot long Copperhead snake was coiled up on the port side travler for our main sail! I am no fan of snakes especially if they are poisonous and the thought that I was walking around the boat all morning and had passed within inches of such a creature was not the best way to begin the day. We spent the next 1/2 hour using boat hooks to evict the Copperhead as he or possibly she was in no mood to leave. At one point the snake was coiled around the wind generator supports. And when we did get the snake onto our back scoop it tried in vain to remain aboard!
We are currently in St Augustine along with two other boats and are planning on making a run up to Charleston SC or Willimington NC.
