The Wild Frontier

The border or “frontier” as it is referred to is a crazy place. As well as the airport runway there are the two sets of border controls which have been the subject of much frustration recently. The latest tactic from the Spanish is to descend at rush hour and slow down the flow of pedestrians, cars scooters and bikes. This is causing enormous frustration, delays of hours in the heat, but palls to insignificance as you absorb the history focused on this spot over centuries.
Despite the popular opinion that it’s just the Spanish being awkward, you have to appreciate that having an “open” border within the EU with a tax free territory has its problems. Thousands of Spanish work in Gibraltar and go over daily. Many just seem to go over and fill their bags and every other pocket with cigarettes. Car fuel £1Ltr, Grouse whisky £6.50Ltr! We took Malibu over to Gibraltar to top her tank - 420ltrs at 0.67ppl saving over £300 on the normal price of fuel.. Wild!
