TO S AFRICA DAY 2
03 November 2011 | Passing the island of Reunion

A very calm state prevails out here. So calm I had to motor for most of last night in order to get some distance out of Mauritius. I hesitate greatly to use precious fuel as I can foresee situations at the tip of Madagascar and approaching the S African coast where I would need every drop. For instance, if caught in a SWester with no place to run, I might have to motor directly into the wind and waves to hold my position until the storm has passed.
While peaceful and quiet and, now under sail, moving at 4-5 knots, I cant help but feel this is the proverbial 'quiet before the storm'- that diabolical duplicitous face of the sea - leaves me suspicious.
But for now....all is tranquil...
