MAIN SAIL RIPPED
24 April 2012 | On the way to the Caribbean

Its one of those discoveries that sends a shudder down one's spine - suddenly there it was, a rip in the mainsail. Light winds today and a very careful skipper apparently could not prevent the one or two flogs(sail flappings) and it succumbed. The mainsail is getting on in age and has had some repairs done to it both in Australia and in South Africa. However, there was one section, that remained untouched and on which I was counting, if all else failed, to get me home. That, lamentably is now ripped. Not a big rip and I have begun repairs which will, if the weather cooperates, be finished tomorrow. But, I have to admit, Im no expert in sail repair and, add to that a rocking boat and wind...well, you see the problem.
And... it was looking so good today, steady wind, both sails up...
