03 May 2012 | On the way to the Caribbean

At DTG 302140 UTC Apr 12, POMONA was contacted by PRIDE OF AFRICA. The catamaran reported that she was followed by an unknown vessel, and that this vessel refused to identify itself. PRIDE OF AFRICA was concerned that it might be pirates. 3. POMONA has done several attempts to get in contact with PRIDE OF AFRICA, but not able to establish contact, and is now concerned that she might be overtaken. 4. JRCC request MRCC South Africa to investigate PRIDE OF AFRICA, and if possible to find out if they have any POC in South-Africa. According to POMONA PRIDE OF AFRICA departed South-Africa (DTG unknown) for the Mediterranean Sea. Next port of call Cape Verde. PRIDE OF AFRICA is a white catamaran, appx 45 feet long. Crew on-board hired by owner to ferry her to the Mediterranean. Owner of PRIDE OF AFRICA believed to be a businessman, which also is believed to be owner of a luxury train going from north to south in Africa. Last known position PRIDE OF SOUTH AFRICA DTG 302140 is 07.06N 021.21W, (500 miles off Sierra Leone, West coast of Africa). Probably on a north-westerly course. JRCC Southern Norway not able to establish contact with Senegal, and is co-coordinating for the time being. Please inform this JRCC of any findings.
