winter blues

seems every year this time i count the days until my spring launch. i know its approaching because the marina wants my slip paid before february 15. not sure where we gonna be this year tryin to open up some new cruising grounds to get some more miles under my belt for whatever we wind up doing with this boat. seems the most expensive commodity is time not enough of it and alot of it costs too much. gonna add some more equipment this spring hope we put it to use

wow the weather has been terrible it has rained eveyday for the last month however last weekend we said screw it and left the dock for northport long island with marinette leading the way. she left before us by a half hour. we had reserved moorings but were happy that there was space at the town dock as we had made a fast trip. backing down on a fixed pier at low tide was a new expierience. of course my crew made the job more difficult than it was. i waited for marinette to tie up first but was standing by in a cross wind keeping my boat lined up to back in. as soon as we were within a few feet of the pier my wife threw the aft line to the dockmaster only to have it fall into the water . visions of the line tangling in my prop made me crazy , i just retrieved it and did all the line handling myself running around like a beheaded chicken. it was well worth it as the weekend proved to be quite enjoyable. a very nice town with excelllent dining and stores. the return on saturday proved to be sloppy with the wind on the nose gusting to 24 knots appparrent. however it felt good to finally go somewhere.
However sunday proved to be the jewel of the weekend and sailing in 9-12 knots apparrent on the sound allowed me to air out my cob webbed sails for the first real sail of the year. i was very much impressed with the turn of speed the boat has reaching to 6.5 knots in relatively lite air. Of course the same crew was fast asleep in the cockpit as we sailed up and down the sound for a few hours. too bad the day slippped away as it was the best so far
