Calliope man
08 May 2013
This chap has a great act. He has a tin pram dinghy painted in bright colours which circles slowly on an electric outboard whose tiller is under his arm. The main part of the dinghy is taken up with a calliope, a tiny circus organ, which he cranks with a wheel, while playing the flugelhorn or french horn. He's programmed the calliope to provide musically very satisfactory arrangements, and it's a real delight to see and listen to. Periodically he extends a long fishing rod with a clog on the end of the line to collect money, which he receives in abundance.
Instead of going back to Crouesty with our flotilla, we pootled up the Noyalo river on the tide, and headed to Port Conleau on a mooring for supper. This just is the most brilliant regatta.
