Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Tower of Mercy

18 November 2008
Marianna and I are revisiting a project from 2 years ago, our
Tower of Mercy. Having found the original portraits to our project when we were moving the storage shed from the old location to the new, what better time to review the Works of Mercy and the associated saints? Afterall, Marianna has to choose a saint for confirmation very soon! Whom to choose? Why not one of these ladies?

Here is the list as given two years ago,
Corporal Works of Mercy
Feed the Hungry - Thea Bowman, Dorothy Day
Give Drink to the Thirsty - St. Frances Cabrini, St. Katherine Drexel
Clothe the Naked - Blessed Theresa of Calcutta
Shelter the Homeless - Sarah, wife of Abraham
Visit the Sick - Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha
Visit the Imprisoned - St. Therese of Lisieux
Bury the Dead - St. Catherine of Siena

Spiritual Works of Mercy
Instruct the Ignorant - St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
Counsel the Doubtful - Mother Catherine McAuley
Admonish the Sinner - St. Therese of Avila
Bear Wrongs Patiently - Mary Magdalene
Forgive Injuries - St. Josephine Bakhita
Comfort the Sorrowful - St. Veronica
Pray for the Living and the Dead - Mary, Mother of Mercy

Since there is about a week from here to Thanksgiving (taking into account the weekend and all), and I want to get this project done before traveling for the holiday, I think I'll break out a new way of doing things.

I'll do half the project.

I'm pretty excited about it actually. We brought watercolor paints and pencils with us and I think it'll be fun to work together on an extended project like this.

So I'm off to paint my first iconic saint. Whom shall I choose first?
