Fins to the Right...

26 January 2009

One of our local Maine-iacs was out walking the flats last night and reached down and grabbed this cute little Nurse Shark by the tail. (I want to say something totally cliche'd about a tiger by the tail but I'll refrain as it's not a Tiger Shark.)

I think that the sun and the heat go straight to these Maine folks heads and makes them giddy. I'd never think to run out and grab a shark by the tail.

Did you know that Nurse Sharks have been observed resting on their fins on the sandy bottom of the ocean? This creates a lovely little shadowy shelter that crustations try to hide in and then, of course, the sharks suck them up for dinner.
