Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

April's Shower of Photos: Ditch the Flash

06 April 2009

Today's quicky hint: Ditch the flash. Especially close up it has a tendency to wash out the photo. Please note that we are talking about the nearly useless pop-up flashes that are part of your camera. I feel they are too directional, directional meaning directly at your subject.

A photo that I think looks too harsh the shadows are too crisp for the feel I was hoping for and the color of the roses are whiter than in real life.

After I turned the flash off the background candle is softer and more out of focus and the roses are a richer color that is truer to life. Personal preferance, I suppose, but I like this photo better.
