Triduum of Announcements
April 9, 2009, 8:05 am

Okay, I've been a little spastic with posting lately but I'm going to try and explain why today in the limited amount of time I'm giving myself this morning.

1: Started new homeschool group and we actually meet in real life at least once a week! You can check us out at the Sunschoolers website. If you are down here on Fridays come to the Boca Chica NAS and meet at the front gate, I'll escort you on for our bowling and beach day - so fun!

2: My aunt is coming to visit and be my and Marianna's sponsor at the Easter Vigil when we are both Confirmed this year.

3. She will be staying with us in our new house.

Yes, you read that right. We three will be on land for one whole year while we dry dock the S/V Mari hal-O-Jen and rework the rigging, the deck, repaint her, give her a bottom job etc... etc...

But on to the exciting things! Do you want to see the new place? It is base housing, built in the late 50's, I think, and is awesome! So huge (to us!!!) and clean and has loads of cupboards and closets.

Isn't it incredible? I'm just going to give you one photo today though, loads to do before I pick up my aunt at the airport this afternoon!

April's Shower of Photos
I've been a little busy lately...
April 8, 2009, 3:36 pm

I've been a little busy lately so when I wrote this:

Today's quicky hint: Ditch the flash. Especially close up it has a tendency to wash out the photo. Please note that we are talking about the nearly useless pop-up flashes that are part of your camera. I feel they are too directional, directional meaning directly at your subject.

With this photo:

And continued on with commentary contrasting two different photos I guess it would have been helpful to actually see both photos, right?

So here's the other. Can you see the difference now?

A photo that I think looks too harsh the shadows are too crisp for the feel I was hoping for and the color of the roses are whiter than in real life.

After I turned the flash off the background candle is softer and more out of focus and the roses are a richer color that is truer to life. Personal preferance, I suppose, but I like this photo better.

April's Shower of Photos: Clean Your Lens
April 4, 2009, 7:19 pm

Today's quicky hint: A clean lens is a happy lens. It will take spectacular photos one right after another for you while a dirty lens will never ever turn out a single usable photo.

This incredible sunset (With the lovely black spot above the sun - dirty lens!) was due to a breeze from the south during Cuba's sugarcane burning season.

April's Shower of Photos: Turn Their Backs

Today's quicky hint: Turn their backs when taking portraits to completely change the look of the photo too!

Two photos taken with in the same minute look completely different even though it is the same three girls.

Looking into the sun.

We rotated around to let the sun come from the side a bit.

The sun was low in the sky this day which is always a good time to take portraits!

Today's quicky hint: Turn your back to completely change the look of the photo.

Two photos taken with in the same minute look completely different even though it is the same sand and water.

One is taken looking towards the sun.

One is taken with my back to the sun.
Totally different looks!

Now, on to the other photographers...

April's Shower of Photos

Do you recall the fun we had last year during the April's Shower of Photos? It was truly a highlight of the blogging year for me. There was no way I'd let April pass us by without photographing her this year either!

If you would like to join me in a month of photos again this year, please drop a comment into the comment box and I'll collect all our info into my sidebar. Set your own goals for the month or focus on a theme that interests you (spring flowers, macro photos, portraits, or perhaps the color green?) or simply have uploading one photo a day as your goal! Goodness knows that's all I'll get done some April days!

The above button may change as I'm not quite pleased with it yet, mainly because I did not take the photo! Aaah well, I suppose it gives me something to strive for. Let me know what you think!

I hope to make April's Shower of Photos a little Loveliness to look forward to each day, won't you join me?

You have to watch the lines on your boat...
March 26, 2009, 8:56 pm

...you never know what may crawl up them!

Look at this!!!

Who does he think he is?

Tryin' to board a vessel without permission?

What! There's an accomplice behind the piling?

Never say it's true!

Repelled at last.

Oh no! Here comes reenforcements!

Abandon ship, mateys!

A fine day was had by all when the Lapaz Crew joined forces with the S/V Mari Hal-O-Jen and swam under the screaming Super Hornets of the Boca Chica Naval Air Station.

Come back soon, you're welcome aboard anytime!

Oh yeah, this is my life!

Laptop is fixed but I am finding it difficult to leave my hammock on the beach for some reason...
