This is my favorite photograph from my month of photos. I like everything about it, from the composition on out. What was your favorite photo from your month of concentrating on photography? I think it'd be neat if you left the link in the comments to your post with your best of the best photo.
I'm so glad so many of you played along this year and special thanks goes out to those of you who started asking me in March if we'd be doing the April Showers again! It was the craziest, busiest month of my life but your photos brought me such happiness whenever I could grab a moment to sit down and admire them.
Now, don't forget to leave your link so we all can admire the beautiful May Day bouquet the April Showers have brought!

The CurrClick Green Generation Cartoon Caption Contest ended up being such an intense nail biting race with the top two finalists exchanging positions by single votes over the last few hours of the contest. But at the very end Marianna pulled ahead with 238 votes over 233.
She is now the proud winner of a Wacom Art Tablet - wow!!!

Marianna snapped this photo of me knitting. This is my very first scarf for a guy, girl scarves I have cranked out for years and years, woven and knitted and even finger crocheted, the later is a terrific way to show off specialty yarns actually.

But for this very first guy scarf I had to really think long and hard about how to make an item of clothing that my uncle might actually wear. I wanted something he could wear either with his going to work suits or his Rockies jackets and I think this fits the bill. I chose a soft cotton in black and worked it in basketweave, one of my favorite stitches, for a subtle pattern that is fun to knit.

The first burger on our new grill had to be a Marino Burger (name borrowed from one of our favorite places - Hobo's in Key Largo). Bleu cheese, cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo, toasted bun = delicious.

P.S. The CurrClick Green Generation Cartoon Caption Contest is still ongoing. Voting continues through Wednesday. If you are not registered at CurrClick yet, you will need to before voting. Marianna is in first place today - super exciting!!!

We've been busy-busy-busy this past week with Conch Republic Days. I've been told that I must share this set of photos though for our dear friends who are living in a much warmer climate now. :)

The Iditarod, Key West style.

Now for the photo of the day! One of my favorites of Marianna the very first time we made a teapot full of this really amazing blooming tea flower. It was enthralling!

Well, here we are in the midst of another week. I seem to have developed the habit of taking the weekends off during these April Showers, but we've been so busy doing so many cool things there has simply been no time to blog about the activities before racing onto the next!
Now, several weeks ago when this mad pace of living first began Marianna called me into her cabin to show me an entry to a contest she'd been working on. I briefly scanned it, told her it was nice and jumped right back into packing or some other task.
Today I opened up my email to find that she is one of the Top 3 finalists in her age group!

Here is the information over at CurrClick, voting will begin tomorrow, April 22 and run through the 29. A free registration will be required to vote.
Congratulations, Marianna!!!

Veronica sent me the prettiest candle lamp I've ever seen. It is now sitting in pride of place out in the Florida Room.

Have you ever seen such a lovely shade before? When that crackled glass catches the sunlight in the afternoon, it simply sparkles!

Just a simple photo of my very first plant for the new house.

Okay. Two simple photos since Hal insists. :) Check out my focal length!

What fun!!!

Now last week I dissed the pop-up flashes that come with most cameras as being too directional, resulting in washed out photographs. Now this week I'll show you what a speed flash can do in the hands of someone who knows how to run one. (Not my hands, I need a TON of work with the speed flash.)

Without the flash, or perhaps with the pop-up flash (I was otherwise occupied, Hal was the photographer at the Easter Vigil.)

With the speed flash.
Now, as Hal explained it to me, you set the speed flash for the appropriate distance before shooting. Now that particular hint might have been helpful before I picked the camera up later that night for a close up interior shot in the living room! Good thing the one hint I've absorbed over the time I've had the speed flash is to bounce it off walls and ceilings or we might have had truly blinded people!
