Happenings on Abemama

Matt Satterlee
Dad has moved into base camp as of last night. We set up the hammocks between the palm trees and hung the mosquito netting over them. Same story witht the internet here...very poor at best. We've been using the sat phone email to do most of our communication.

Currently I'm working with a local to get the trimaran out of the water at the last high tide. It has been very difficuly and our first few plans failed at getting it up the beach as far as we wanted to. Right now it is beached and we will now concentrate on getting it jacked up high enough so the next highest tide does not refloat it.

Six students form the Adventist academy came to the boat last Sunday and helped go through nearly everything on the trimaran....cleaning everything in sight. we took off one big black bag of garbage. It was a disaster when we got here but we are making some progress.

We would have transportation in the form of two bicycles but one of them was stolen from the block house. A few of the students knew where they were and broke into it and stole the good beach cruiser that had aluminum wheels. They also took a tire pump and two other wheels with tires on them. The school is going to give us their $100 deposits toward new bikes that have arrived with the shipping container from AU. The police had been notified of the stolen bicycle and had recovered it. One day we went to go get it at the police station and the man handed me a frame withoug a seat or wheels. Great! What a wast of time that was. Anyway, the kids are going to pay for their misdeeds via their parents wallet.

We are still waiting on the block that is going to be used to finish the adjacent blockhouse at base camp. The students are supposed to make those as well.

In just under two months we will be making our way back to HI for the holidays and to reprovision the boat and do some fund raising for things that are needed for base camp.
