We crossed the date line 2 degrees back which was over a day ago. Our sailing course has been less favorable due to the winds and we've been sailing due N in 18-25 knots of wind at just off a closed haul. Yesterday we was our worst weather yet as sailors. A squall line 12 miles long and about 3 miles wide tore right through us nearly parallel. We experienced the worst of it with max winds of 36-37 knots. The headsails were furled in and we just flew the main with one reef. A second reef would have been better but we did alright. The rain and wind lasted for about 45 minutes. I opted to turn off the autopilot and sit in the cockpit to steer at a beam reach and control the main sheet. Winds can change in a heartbeat in these situations. Oh yeah, I was in my skivvies the entire time. :-) We are now 1364 miles from Honolulu and hope to make some Easting in the next 24 hours. We need to be headed toward 50 degrees. Still no significant amount of sunlight to charge ou r batteries with the solar panels. We've had to run the generator and battery charger. It looks like a full moon tonight and mostly clear skies. Hope to get some sunlight during the day in the next 24 hours. Sidenote: The rice cooker went flying across the galley yesterday during that storm and had to be resurrected! Mom, don't forget to send the football scores! ;-)
