Planning for Perth
31 October 2013 | Monkey Mia
Michael
Other than waiting for the elusive 'weather window', which could take months, I may have found a way to get to Perth from Shark Bay .
Right now the forecast looks like southerly blows Friday / Saturday and then Tuesday / Sunday. That's as far as the forecast goes out.
Tomorrow , Friday , still with some protection of the land in southern Shark Bay we will sail the 60NM from Monkey Mia to Shelter Bay. Shelter Bay is right near the southern exit of Shark Bay at Steep Point. Early Sunday we will depart Steep point and work off the 130NM to Wallabi group of the Albrolhos Island chain. For those of you into history these are the islands that the Batavia shipwreck/mutiny/massacre occurred. We will likely anchor at either Turtle Bay or Pigeon Island.
We'll wait the winds of Tuesday / Wednesday out there, and assuming they abate, then make for the last 150NM to Perth.
With a little luck we should be in Perth by Sunday November 9.
Please note that from tomorrow I will no longer have 3G phone access - essentially all the way to Perth. It will be back to satellite phone and very limited communications.
