Leaving Nassau again
22 January 2008 | Nassau Harbour Club Marina
Rainy and overcast
Today we're heading for Norman's Cay with Salt & Light after being in Nassau for about a week. We managed to collect the mail which finally delivered the package from Veola in Australia that brought us Bundaberg Rum, Tim Tams and Vegemite...we were all very excited. The watermaker parts arrived in Nassau but on delivery UPS asked for $310 for import duty - saying we hadn't supplied our cruising permit. Supposedly, if the parts are for the day to day operation of your vessel, and you supply your cruising permit for the Bahamas, these parts should be exempt. So after 4 days of arguing with UPS (the delivery company) and talking to our supplier who confirmed they had supplied the permit we finally concluded if we wanted the parts we would need to pay the duty. Not happy Jan! The other thing we were trying to organise while here was the ability to email through our single side band radio so that when we are in remote places we can actually keep in touch with people. Of course, that's not easy....our radio is an unusual one that requires some modification to be able to do it and of course it's expensive. So, not sure what we'll do now. We have other options to explore but not today. Norman's Cay will be a stopover on our way to Waderick Wells Cay to hunker down when the 20 knot northerly comes through on Thursday night. Tomorrow and Thursday should be good days for some snorkelling. In the next couple of weeks we'll make our way to Georgetown in the Exumas where we'll pick up Sam's Grade 8 books and be in internet range again. Look forward to catching up then.
