Moving west

The Meanderers have moved on from Culebra to a harbour further west called Ponce where the crew can check out of the US Virgin Islands in preparation for their departure to Panama. Ray's hopeful of getting some good Internet there so he might be skypable! Meanwhile back in the land of Oz, Sam and I are getting over our jetlag gradually...things were better yesterday, and Sam turned 15 today. Because it's actually 14 hours ahead over here in Australia...it's now Monday and I can start doing all those things I've been putting off....looking for a job, looking for a house, looking for a school. Hmmm...maybe I could jump a flight to Panama instead. (View Post...)

In Puerto Rico

This a pic of the huge fish called Tarpon that cruise around the boats waiting to be fed, and a starfish, in Culebra Harbour courtesy of our mates on Argonaut. Ray and the crew are now in Puerto Rico in Culebra Harbour because the weather window just wasn't there. This way they are at least moving toward Panama and seeing some different places. Seems that Milo has settled in with the new company and has taken to Simon and Mario. When they returned to the boat the other day he was so excited he jumped in the water...and let me tell you, he's not a water dog! (View Post...)

Stuck in St Thomas a while longer

Spoke to Ray today and he informed me that the weather in the Caribbean is turning nasty and setting in for a few days which has thwarted their plans to head for Columbia. They've checked out of the US Virgins anyway so they may head to Puerto Rico. The dilemma is that a lot of the other boats are already in Panama and about to transit through the canal and Ray had hoped to be going through at the same time. He needs to haul the boat for antifouling and may do that in Puerto Rico instead now. Basically, he's undecided. The crew are champing at the bit to get going but Ray's gut instinct on the weather, which has proven correct in the past, is setting of warning signals for him. I guess it's ultimately the skippers decision and he won't be wanting the shake-down cruise with the new crew to be a nightmare voyage. (View Post...)
