Happy Thanksgiving

22 November 2012 | St. Mary's Georgia
Susan/ Beautiful, sunny 62
Happy Thanksgiving to all. This year we really have a lot to be thankful for. The fact that we are out here cruising, that our business sold successfully, that Jeremy laaunched a new life in Colorado and Ryan launched a new life as a married man. God has bless us deeply and we thank Him.

After we left Savannah, we traveled all the twists and turns thru Georgia on the ICW. The weather was gray and cold, so the scenery was very flat; I think on a sunny day it would be beautiful. The currents thru this area are wild; at one point, Meltemi was going 10.2 knots! I compare the Georgia waterway to intestines--they curve around so many time, you never know which way the current will affect you. Overall, if you leave on a rising tide, you'll average better than boat speed. Because it was so cold, we just pushed on to St. Mary's without stopping to tour St. Simon's or Jekyll Island.

This gathering is about more than Turkey! Since Monday, 11/19, we've had cocktail parties nightly, homemade muffins at Ms. Wendy's book store, a chili cookoof, and an oyster roast. This involves the townsfolk supplying 8 bushels of oysters and the cruisers shucking and slurping them over a special table they've built. Delicious, but messy and somewhat dangerous! turkey is today at 1pm with everybody supplying the "sides". Looking forward to a great sunny day with about a hundred new friends. We really miss our family and friends right now and are looking forward to being home on 12/17.
