Shoo Fly!

Well we didn't make it to Angel Island after all (too crowded) so we settled for Plan B: Horseshoe Cove. Horseshoe Cove is a lovely little anchorage at the base of Golden Gate Bridge's North Tower. The friends who planned our Bon Voyage Raft-up- Jake (with Neil) on Calmate and Sean and Sarah on The Contessa-got to the cove before us and anchored so all we had to do was raft alongside Calmate. (Nice.)
It was a great afternoon and evening: good food, good drink, good company- and of course the girls being COMPLETELY spoiled by "Uncle Jake". Does it get any better?
The next morning we got ready to head out around 11:00, just as Gate Crasher and our friends the Philips on Zara showed up. We said our farewells and some of us got a bit choked up. We're leaving some really great friends- old and new- behind.
We were very touched to have the 4 boats as our escort out of San Francisco Bay. Although if one were of a cynical mind one might suspect that Jake and Neil (being Encinal Yacht Club Members) were actually under orders to make sure that we did indeed actually leave... and to repel us should we attempt to turn around and head back toward Alameda. (We loved that place!)
We had a very easy motor-sail down to Half Moon Bay. Pulled into Pillar Point and headed straight for the fuel dock for diesel and water (Can you believe we left Alameda without filling our water tanks? What rookies. Geez, guess we've been living on the dock too long!) As John was backing up to the fuel dock we had an audience- no stress there, right?- that included my Uncle Mike with my cousin Travis and his girlfriend, Shelby. They came by to check out the boat and buy us dinner. This cruising life is okay!
The only black fly in my Chardonnay is, well a TON of black flies all OVER the dang place. I'm not kidding, this place is LOUSY with them. We've been to Half Moon Bay before but the flies were never this bad... not sure what's up with that. We'll definitely be happy to push out of here tomorrow for Santa Cruz.
