On The Hook

Beautiful
Hola Amigos,
We are in Bahia de los Meurtos. That's is Bay of the Dead. This is not quite as ominous as it sounds. It refers to "Dead-man" mooring anchors that were used here in the early 1900's to anchor barges used to haul silver from a local mine.
Developers are not such students of history. They have found that the name Los Meurtos ( as this bay is fondly called by cruisers) has not helped sales so they are trying to change the name to "Bahia de los Suenos" , "Bay of Dreams".
We are on the hook here. That means that our only umbilical cord to earth is our rope and chain attached to our anchor. We are off the grid. No power cord. No gas pipes. No water main. We do have our solar panels, our propane tanks and our water maker so we are more self sufficient than most sailboats. It is beautiful and peaceful sitting in your cockpit. We will stay here today and figure out which incredible bay to visit tomorrow.
Everything was working well until we tried to start the dingy engine to go to dinner. Luckily we can also be old fashion so we paddled to shore. That also means that we have a new learning opportunity for today: how to fix a dingy engine.
Happy Paddling to you until we Blog again,
The Merry Lee
