PRE-BASH
25 April 2011 | MARINA DE LA PAZ
Hola Amigos,
For the last few months while relaxing in Puerto Vallarta and La Paz we have watched with amusement the harried preparations of the “Puddle Jumpers” ( Cruisers who are sailing from Mexico to the South Pacific). We are talking months of preparation. They have two major Websites. One is actually “Official”. Each of these sites have a number of articles and links. They even had a whole set of thoughtfully organized seminars.
We saw the last few depart last week and then it hit us. We have to start getting ready for “The Bash”. There are no “Official” websites. When you search for “The Bash” the only link cannot be displayed. There are no seminars. We have to clandestinely meet behind closed doors.
The trip to Polynesia is down wind with following seas. Our trip back north is motoring into head winds and seas. Someone had to use some creativity to come up with Puddle Jump. The Bash is self evident.
Really, would you rather do a Puddle Jump or the dreaded Bash?
How can you explain the discrepancy? One is the prized wonder child and the other is the relative that no one talks about. Here is one theory. When you think Puddle Jump you think beautiful palm lined beaches overlooking crystal blue lagoons. You think of beautiful Polynesian girls in Hula Skirts. Leisure times in secluded anchorages. Everyone understands why there was mutiny on the Bounty.
When you think Bash you think freeways congested with cars and smog. You think of gangs and landscapes tagged with graffiti. Way too many people rushing way too fast. Really what are we thinking?
So we have started our Lists and checking them twice. We will have one crew member who arrives tomorrow and then we leave the safe confines on Marina de la Paz. We don’t have a great weather window so the trip may not be as smooth as our first one. On the positive side we may have a beautiful lady adorning our boat on the way up. We will work on the Hula Skirt. Que sera, sera.
Happy Smooth Trails to you until we Blog again,
The Merry Lee
