Sidney, Nova Scotia

Hola,
Another treasure trove of history.
Phil had reserved a taxi here several months ago because all of the boats excursions were sold out. The day before we got there the rental car placed called and said none of their cars had been returned so we were out of luck and have a nice day.
We hired a taxi for four hours and had a great day. He gave us insight into the towns present problems as he drove us to Fortress Louisbourg. Don't you love making lemonade out of lemons?
The French , and Lewis is half French, managed to lose this Fort not once but twice. The second time the English dismantled it.
Sidney had a large steel and coal mine business but it went under in 2001. They used many of the newly unemployed workers who had not left town to rebuild 1/4 of the fortress.
A fort protects solders; a fortress protects a town.
They have all sorts of actors roaming the grounds and you can ask them questions. During the winter the solders were always cold so several would sleep in the same bunk. When one wanted to roll over, he would say spoon and everyone rolled over together.
The Fortress had a large harbor which was used to protect the French fishermen fishing the cod banks.
Here is a pic of us at the lighthouse.
