Moving on down south
28 November 2008 | N 20 14.17, W 105 34.4 Punta Ipala 50 miles south of La Cruz
We woke up at 4AM/5AM to get ready for our new time zone and to continue our Grandchild Odessey.. Leaving at sunrise, we suddenly had multiple dock hands making sure that we had paid our bill. After many asurrances they wished us a good voyage. Banderas Bay is very deep so it took awhile to transverse it.We then went around Cabo Corrientes ( Cape of Currents) and had a wild sleigh ride down 10 foot following seas and up to 30 mph winds. For some reason we seem to travel by ourselves. The better the anchorage the more likely it will not be named "Punta" ( better anchorages are "Bahias").Also the better the anchorage the harder it is to spot from 2 to 3 miles off shore since it is indented in the coastline which blocks the wind. Using GPS waypoints ( not the GPS map), our radar and depth finder we finally crept in to Punta Ipala. After anchoring twice inorder to be a safe distance from the rocks in case we dragged anchor, we had a celebratory beer.We checked our GPS map and sure enough we are 2 miles inland. After cleaning our hull, Lewis swam ashore and explored the town of 50 people. He is really getting good at saying,"Hola and Buenos tardes".Back on The Merry Lee we BBQ'ed another wonderful meal under a rainbow sunset. We are planning on going to Bahia Chamela tomorrow which hopefully means that there are not rocks 100 feet away from you.
Happy Anchor Watches to you until we blog again. This is sent on our Iridium Phone since we don't have Wifi,go figure.
