The five hour cruise
03 December 2008 | Bahia Tenacatita
Hola Amigos.Well, it turned out to be a five hour cruise because lunch took 2 hours. As you can tell we made it back.We filled up the dingy fuel tank, charged the camera batteries, lathered up with sun screen and bug repelant, filled our bag with water, extra rations and our handheld GPS.We were ready for the Dingy Jungle Cruise! We went by the old site for the McHale's Navy movie set. There is a breaking bar over the river estuary entrance. We turned off the outboard, lift it up, and started padling like crazy away from the rocks and riding the breaking waves in.We then restarted the dingy engine and followed a Panga that was taking hotel guests on the tour. We followed its circuitous route around the sand spits and submerged rocks. You can not beat local knowledge. We were finally in still deep waters. Initially the river was wide but it gradually narrowed and we were soon enveloped by a canopy of mangroves. This is one of the few thrieving Mangrove estuary groves in the world! We were treated to a display of Egrets,Kingfishers,Herons and butterfies showing us the way. There were beatiful red crabs on the mangrove roots soaking up the sun.We finally made to the turn around pond. We turned off the engine, lowered the dingy wheels, jumped out and pulled our dingy to shore. We made the short walk to Revelcito with its Palapa filled beaches.Someone suggerted the Palapa with the blue Corona sign but they all have that sign so we just picked the Mexican Fiesta. The speciality of the village is a fish roll filled with octopus, shrimp, veggies, wrapped in red snapper. It is either steamed or fried and topped with an almond sauce.$6 a piece and $1 beers sitting at a table on the sand and protected by a thacked roof overhead with an incredible view of the bay with its rocky reef and breaking waves. Now you know why lunch took 2 hours. Today is a rest/fix the boat day and tomorrow we go to Bahia Navidad.Should be an easy 2 hour trip but the Merry Lee does not know easy. SPR thanks for the reservations at the Marina. Hopefully they will have the UCLA BB game. WW thanks for our financial update. Will pay the piper when we arrive at the marina. We hope they have Wifi.Hopefully we can load pictures on our blog then. Happy Jungle Cruises to you until we blog again. Mary Lee and Lewis
