Hola Amigos, We were in Taxaco and knew we wanted to go to the Pyramides of the Sun and Moon. We also new that we did not want to go through Mexico City. Unfortuneately we did not know how to get from A to B without going through C. We talked to the Hotel guy,we talked to the Toll road guy, we talked to the Police carwash guy. As you can tell we basically talked to anyone who would show pity on Lost Souls.Luckily the Johova Witness guy never found us. After 2 hours,2 U turns and about 40 miles we finally stopped at a roadside restuarant. Sometimes you look and talk to someone and you know that they know what they are talking about.
This guy told us what we did not want to hear; that no matter what we had to go through Mexico City. What have we learned about "never say never"?
Surprise, Mexico City's traffic is well organized and the city is magnificent. We liked it so much that we are going to do it again today on our way to Acapulco.
We found the "Piramides" a much more logical spelling in Spanish than English. We hired this very nice guy who had worked on the excavation in the 60"s, learned English and now helps poor lost souls. The Sun Piramide is the 3rd largest in the world. The city at its height in 400 AD had the same population as Rome. Why its people disappeared is not know but Climate Change could have played a role. Our guide took us to to a wonderful restaurant that is 100 ft down in a volcanic grotto. We had to go back and get our jackets.
After the tour was over he jumped in our car and helped us find a hotel. People in Mexico are so nice. The hotel has hot water, Wifi, nice towels,a coffee maker. The girls are happy even if ML does not drink coffee.
Happy Piramide Climbing to you until we Blog again
